How old does a puppy have to be for board and train?

Most trainers take puppies from 10–16 weeks, and nearly all require age-appropriate vaccinations to be current. Some programs specifically want puppies early — before problem habits set — while others prefer waiting until five or six months for e-collar or off-leash work. Ask about the minimum age and the vaccination requirement when you call.

Is board and train good for a puppy?

It can be excellent for house training, crate training, socialization, and foundation manners, because puppies learn fast with consistent daily repetition. The tradeoff is that you miss part of a formative window with your own dog, and the socialization your puppy gets is the trainer's, not yours. Many trainers offer shorter puppy programs — 10 days to two weeks — for exactly this reason.

What will a puppy board and train cover?

Typically house and crate training, name recognition and recall foundations, leash introduction, sit/down/place, handling and grooming tolerance, and structured exposure to new people, surfaces, and sounds. Off-leash reliability is generally not a realistic goal at this age and is usually addressed in a later program.

How much does a puppy board and train cost?

Puppy programs are often the cheapest tier because they are shorter — commonly $950–$2,500 for 10 days to two weeks. Longer puppy boot camps that run four weeks or more can reach $3,000–$5,000.
